Building and sustaining communities — economically and socially

HigherSelf is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 46-0670042) established in New York in 2012. Today we serve Newark and the surrounding communities across the East Coast — and we work nationally wherever the mission calls.

Our mission is simple to say and lifelong to do: build and sustain communities, economically and socially. That means stable housing and real employment pathways. It means trauma-informed care and mentorship for our youth. It means creative space at The 7 Space, our downtown Newark gallery and wellness center. And it means moving real capital — over $1 million raised for Newark nonprofits in the last three years — so the organizations doing the work can keep doing it.

We do this in partnership with the City of Newark, the Office of Violence Prevention & Trauma Recovery, Brick City Peace Collective, Essex County, and the practitioners and neighbors who hold this community — because no one organization builds a community alone.
